Bike Safety Day

(1) There will be activities for all age groups. Once again, the police will host the event at the City Center Park. Both children and adults should come to learn what’s new in bike safety. The Bridgewater Police Department will hold its annual Bike Safety Fair on Saturday, April 14.

(2) Starting at 9 a.m., police officers will be on hand to inspect bikes. They will also check young children’s smaller bikes to make sure they are visible to drivers. Bring your bike helmets too. The police will check to be sure there are no cracks in the helmets. They will also make sure the helmet properly fits the rider.

(3) Children and adults may ride on the bike course, built to teach safe riding habits. No rider may ride on the bike course without a helmet. The course has stop signs, blind spots, and road crossings. It will be an exciting course to ride! Riders will learn how to give way to traffic and how to start and stop safely. An officer will accompany each small group of riders along the course to check the bike riders’ safe riding habits and to suggest needed changes.

(4) Max’s Cafe and Sam’s Diner will provide food and beverages throughout the day. I’m probably going to bring my own food to save some money. Bobo the Clown will lead group games near the gazebo. Join in for a fun game of "Musical Bikes" or "Name That Bike Horn Song." Plus, every hour, a participant’s name will be pulled from a hat. The winner will receive a new bike helmet!
