"Mr. Caruthers, there have been several reports of high levels of air pollution coming from your plant. Are these allegations true?"

"No, Thad, that’s not true."

"How do you account for these government documents stating that testing confirms that you did not comply with a US Environmental Protection Agency request to invest in equipment that would dramatically reduce the amount of air pollution coming from this plant?"

"Thad, let’s be reasonable. Okay, maybe my plant releases too much air pollution, but it would cost a fortune to replace the equipment. Plus, I would have to close the plant down for several weeks while the new equipment is being installed. Worse, all my employees will be out of work for a while, and how are they supposed to support their families? Is this really what the people of this town want?
