Writing an Informational Essay

Use the box provided to write a five paragraph informational essay for one of the prompts below, or choose your own teacher approved topic. You may need to do some brief research about the topics. Remember to use the skills you learned in this chapter when writing your informational essay. As always, check your essay for spelling and grammar errors, fixing any you find.

Make sure that you:

• Brainstorm or freewrite your ideas.
• Use a graphic organizer and/or an outline.
• Do a rough draft, revised draft, and a final draft.
• Check the essay for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or sentence structure errors.
• Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary.
• Think about using headings and bullet points to organize your ideas.
• Make sure you have an introduction paragraph, three body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.

Choose one of the following topics. You will need to do some research for some of these topics.
